Coronavirus ZOOMing 2020

In late March 2020, the Covid-19 lock-down in the UK, meant that we were no longer able to meet in person and provide the support and chatter that we all looked forward to every month.

None of us knew how long this lock-down would go on for, but we all hoped that it wouldn’t be too long before we could meet up again.

Our April speakers and meetings were cancelled….. Our May meetings were cancelled…. Then a whatsapp chat group was set up for our members to stay in touch…..

And as time went on, we embraced the technology that everyone was using for work and for family quizzes, to set up our support group online.

And so our weekly zooming began!

Our 40 minute chats are very short, but very sweet. We had missed seeing each other every month…. and so we began to look forward to our short weekly catch ups.

Some of us were online from the start… some took a few weeks to get involved… and others took 3 attempts to get the technology set up…. with a little help from their family members… but once we had all worked it out, we look forward to our weekly zooming!

Amongst our members, we’ve sent Congratulations to a first time Grandmother for the safe arrival of her first Grandchild. Congratulations also to our other Grandmothers who’ve welcomed their beautiful new grandchildren into the world during Covid, and also to those expecting deliveries later in the year.

Huge Congratulations go to our successful Graduate, who studied whilst having cancer treatment, and who now looks forward to starting a new career in the NHS.

To the many birthdays we haven’t been able to celebrate properly and the family weddings that have been cancelled or downsized, we look forward to a time when we can celebrate them properly.

And to the loved ones that we’ve lost, including one of our dear friends, we send our love and condolences to the families.

In July, we’ve had much needed haircuts and hair colouring, trips to visit in-laws, birthday afternoon teas, beautiful blooming gardens, fruit and veg from our allotments, meditation, NHS response volunteering, Ayurveda Challenge, days out at the beach, hotel nights away, nutritious meals, and trips out in a motorhome, to name a few.

Who knows when we’ll be able to meet again in person….. sometime soon we hope….. but in the meantime, please take care, stay safe, wear your mask, wash your hands and look after your loved ones….. until we see you again…. xxxx
