19 November 2019 – Eastleigh Meeting Summary

Just a few friendly people having an informal meeting where we chat and share information over a cuppa!

We had a lovely chill and chat evening on Tuesday this week at Eastleigh (Chandlers Ford).

A new member Suzy joined us – it was lovely to meet you Suzy and we hope to see you again soon.

We have one more definite attendee for the Xmas Dinner on 3rd December and another possible attendee, so this will leave one more space if anyone is interested. Here is the link to book your place and choose your meal. https://www.winchesterbreastcancer.uk/2019/10/13/christmas-dinner-menu-2019/   We’re also doing a Secret Santa at the meal so bring along a wrapped present of up to £5 and Linda will put them in a Santa Sack for us to pick out.

One of the Winchester & Eastleigh Cancer Support Group Committee Members, Jackie Evans, is now Secretary for the HHFT CSP group (Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust) (Cancer Services Partnership) which is a voluntary organisation sitting between the HHFT NHS and the local support groups and charities helping cancer patients in the Winchester, Andover and Basingstoke areas. Meetings this year have been attended by the Chief Exec and Chief Operating Officer of HHFT so the organisation is held in high regard.

The CSP are committed to improving the cancer pathway and treatment experiences of each and every cancer patient in the HHFT area. As a support group, we can provide feedback or raise issues to the HHFT NHS via this CSP group and similarly, we as a support group, will get updates and hear about changes, improvements and new initiatives from HHFT NHS.
As an example, the CSP were instrumental in getting the free parking re-instated at Winchester Hospital for all cancer patients. It isn’t a perfect solution as the limit of only 2 vehicle registrations per patient can be an issue, but by comparison, at Southampton General Hospital, patients still have to pay for the minimum £2 fee for every visit.
A recent CSP Forum event saw representatives from around 20 support groups and cancer support charities attend, listening to speakers from the lead Cancer Nurse at HHFT, the Chemotherapy Matron at HHFT, Wessex Cancer Alliance, Wessex Voices, CSP and an HHFT Dietician, after which we provided input to a couple of workshops.
So if there are issues you’d like to be raised at the bi-monthly meetings at Basingstoke Hospital, please do let Jackie Evans know – send an email to – hello@winchesterbreastcancer.uk

This support group is open to anyone affected by cancer (doesn’t matter what type of cancer). Run by survivors for survivors, this group aims to offer a safe environment for men and women affected by cancer to get together over a cup of tea/ coffee and chat! You are free to come and go as you wish.

We look forward to seeing you! Please feel free to call us or fill in our contact form if you’d like to have a chat first.
